Mattress Giant/Sleepy's/Mattress Firm, Exton, PA
Built in the 70's, at some point became Mattress Giant, which was bought out by Sleepy's shortly before this picture was taken.
Fairfield Plaza Renovation
Part of the awning on the next leg of the building has come down, with work about to start on the Sports Authority storefront. The porch between the storefronts came down before the fronts themselves did.
The Toys R Us/Staples/TJMaxx were added on in 1991, and for some reason never got a façade. When TJ Maxx opened in 2011, the façade was spruced up a bit. It was completely redone again in 2013.

Abandoned Ranch, Parker, CO
Was originally a ranch, became a hotel in the 1920's, abandoned more recently. The property is owned by a local subdivision which has been growing at a steady rate since the late 60's.
King Soopers, Parker, CO
Opened in the 90's. it is one of Kroger's regional branches, and as of last December, still had an older décor.

Sheridan Econ-O-Wash, Sheridan, WY
Originally some kind of store, looks like a Publix, but is waaaaay out of their area. Currently a Laundromat and auto repair shop.
JC Penney, Sheridan, WY
This has to be their oldest, smallest store, opening in 1928. I don't get how this will stay open, while they are closing newer, much larger stores.(I checked, and it is open)
 Update: Unfortunately this has closed.
Mint Bar, Sheridan, WY
Opened in 1907, currently the oldest bar in town.
Montgomery Ward, Sheridan, WY
Built in 1936, looks like it got a facelift in the 50's, Currently First Resort appliance & furniture.
Chevrolet, Sheridan, WY
Opened in 1937 as a Chevy dealer, but was built as an independent dealer in 1920.

Fort Custer, MT
Couldn't find anything on this, but I would assume it was a restaurant/general store. Has been abandoned for at least 6 years.



Gillette Building, Sheridan, WY
Built in 1910, heavily remodeled in the '50's Currently divided between several stores.

I would guess it was built in the 70's, architecture is almost as cool as the stuff inside!
Walmart, Cody, WY
Opened in the early 2000's, replacing an older location nearby.
Antler Lamps, near Yellowstone Park
Old-timey log cabin restaurant, had antlers on the ceiling with a light socket screwed in. Not sure how or why they got the idea. I ordered the cheesesteak there, and as a Philadelphian, I was moderately disappointed
Sinclair, Yellowstone
Sinclair station, probably built in the 50's when the park was stepping it up a bit.
Mineral Spring, Yellowstone
Pretty landscape. There will be a couple of these tonight as I am uploading some pictures from a folder that contains some 2013 vacation pictures
Buffalo, Yellowstone
Just walking down the side of the road. Brushed up against the car, it was awesome.
Amoco?/Shell/Red Eagle, Wyoming
Looks like an old Amoco that was redone when Shell took over. At some point, that closed, and its now Red Eagle Food Stores.
Walmart, Cody, WY (Old)
This store opened in the early 90's, relocated in the 2000's. Has been repurposed as laboratories. I guess Cody doesn't have too great of a commercial district.

Toys R Gone... But the Food's Still Whole

 It should be an easy guess what two stores we'll feature today, but as usual we've got some stuff to go through before we get there. Let's get started! Colonial Theater, Phoenixville, PA If there's one building in Phoenixville you might recognize from something other than my photos, it would be this one. And that would mean you've seen 1958's The Blob . It opened as a playhouse in 1903, and switched to film in 1928. Occasionally a new movie makes it in here, but for the most part they show classics and have concerts here now. Rec Room, Phoenixville, PA Across the street from the theater, in what I am almost certain was an old 5-and-dime (From the 80's until a couple years ago it was a variety store), Conshohocken Brewing has opened up the Rec Room. It's about what you would expect, primarily restaurant/bar space, but with a few shuffleboard and ping-pong tables in back. Indoor Tour

A lot of my posts lately have been outside looks at stores, but today I'll make it up to you. Like 75% of what I'm covering this post are store interiors. Without further ado, let's get started! Malvern Federal, Exton, PA Here's one of the more interesting bank buildings in the area. Its early history is a little complicated but I can tell you what stands today dates back at least to 1810 and was originally a farmhouse. The 1810 portion, made of stone, was added onto a log house constructed in 1771. This part may still be here, but nothing standing today obviously jumps out as a log structure so if it does still stand, it has been covered in stucco. It maintained its original use for close to 200 years, before Malvern Federal Savings bank bought the structure in 1964 and converted it to a bank. 2020 Halloween Post: The American Cyanamid Labs of Princeton, NJ

 The story of how I wound up here goes all the way back to the beginning of Quarantine. Like the very beginning, where we literally weren't allowed to to be out in public on nonessential business. I, like most people, was stuck at home and bored out of my mind. To pass the time, I would find urbex sites (most of which are very stubborn about not giving out locations) and track down the buildings they featured. It was a fun challenge, almost like detective work. One site, Abandoned NJ , had a neat page on an unnamed Agricultural Research Facility. I became instantly obsessed- it was so modern but so decayed at the same time. It also had practically no clues on how to find it. It took me a few days, but ultimately I was able to track it down using a product name that appeared in one of the photos, finding the company that made that, then ultimately discovering that they still had a helipad registered at this address.
