Drive-By Photos 5

McDonald's, Idaho Falls, ID
Happened to drive by at the right time, as it was in the middle of a remodel! Its a bit unusual, as when our local McD was redone, the entire façade was stripped off before any work began on the redo. If you look closely, you can see the scars on the roof from when they took off the old "French fry" lights. This was taken in 2013, but the first time I ever saw a store with the new façade was in 2011. Any idea when they started using the new one?
Per Retail Retell, "Comments on this photo (m.flickr.com/#/photos/tenpoundhammer/8393725192/) suggest one of the last mansard roof builds was in 2006, so maybe it's been around for at least seven or eight years (as of 2015)?"
Aspen Auto Body, Jackson, WY
Looks like it was closed for a while. I think this would have been an Amoco or something originally.
Rawhide Motel, Jackson, WY
Another old motel, no vacancy, like every other motel in town. Neon actually works on this side.

 Grand Tetons Park, WY
Some nature scenes I liked.
Shell, Jackson, WY
Older location, probably not a Shell originally. Has an interesting wood treatment going on around the edges of the canopy.
Exxon, Jackson, WY
A gas station, a motel, a pawn shop, and sporting goods store all in one. Interesting combination.
49er Inn & Suites, Jackson, WY
Right after this picture was taken, the vacancy sign turned off. This was an older motel that was bought out by Quality Inn, but the road sign was never replaced. Probably dates back to the 70's.
Phillips 66, Butte, MT
Missed this picture on the first time through. Probably from the 50's.
McDonald's, Parker, CO
Built in the 90's, was redone in early 2013.
Wendy's, Jackson, WY
This is probably the coolest thing in town, and that's saying something. It still has the original 70's facade! Has a modified color scheme to fit in with the rest of town.
Dairy Queen, Jackson, WY
Looks like an older location, though I think the tower is new as is the sign.
Motel, Dubois, WY
Has an interesting design, though I'm not sure it is a place I would want to stay...
Exxon & Jackalope Museum, Dubois, WY
Jackalope- Rabbit with antlers, popular mythical creature in the western United States.
Side note- anyone else think its weird that some museum with a sign that says 'scream' out front has a gas station as part of it?
Conoco, Dubois, WYEven though the canopy has been redone to the current style, you can still see the old logo on the building's wall.
Silver Spur Lanes, Lander, WY
Old timey bowling alley. It looks larger inside than it does from outside.

Safeway, Lander, WY
This store opened in the mid-2000's, replacing a Marina-style store nearby.

Safeway, Hamilton, MT
My original plan was to keep these on Flickr, but I accidentally deleted them. Rather than re-post them, I figured I might as well move them to the blog.
Dairy Queen, Lander, WY
Looks like an old DQ, currently Dairy Land (as of 2013).
Safeway/Ace, Lander, WY
This store was replaced by the one seen a few photos back. It still has the original sign frame by the road, too!
Chisholm's Jewelry, Lander, WY
Has some pretty interesting midcentury architecture. Sandwiched between two buildings that look almost identical.

Loaf N' Jug, Lander, WY
Apparently Turkey Hill and this place are both owned by Kroger. They have the same logo. (As of the time this was written in 2015; they have since been sold)
Holiday Lodge, Lander, WY
I LOVE this architecture. I just did a search, and found out that this town is called Lander. In the previous photos, it is referred to it as 'the town I can't remember the name of'. Also, this motel has received excellent reviews. Update: This place has since done a misguided remodel and put siding over everything. Thankfully the signage remains.
McDonald's, Lander, WY
Older store, had the playplace added on later I would assume. Update: remodeled in early 2018.
Texaco/Shell, Lander, WY
This closed as a Texaco sometime prior to 2007, although the restaurant continued to operate at least until 2011 (and changed names sometime in between the two dates). By 2013, it was totally abandoned. The station reopened as a Shell in 2017.
Phillips 66, Casper, WY
From the parking lot lights, I can guess that this was built in either the 60's or 70's. Clearly, the canopy was redone at some point.
Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, CO
Disclaimer: I am an Eagles fan, I posted this just since it is a cool picture.
Bitterroot Drug, Hamilton, MT
Old-timey pharmacy. I think it might be the only one in town.
Sunoco, Media, PA
Still has a fairly intact 60's design. Since these pictures were taken, the price sign has been replaced with a digital one.
Exxon, Lionville, PA
Opened in the late 90's. The UniMart used to be the On The Run convenience store. Has a car wash that you can see the corner of in the left of the photo.

Fairfield Plaza Remodel, Exton, PA
Some  more of the awning has been removed, this section has been down since work started at the Floris Spa and adjoining stores. Brick has started to come down around Ross. Not sure why they left the sign up, since most stores have put up tarp signs before work even started at their area.
