Pennhurst: My 2015 Flickr Halloween Post

This was from my first Halloween upload on Flickr. It features Pennhurst, an abandoned insane asylum near where I live. Most of these buildings were built in the early 1900's, and abandoned when the asylum closed in the late 80's.


 This building was formerly home to the Auditorium.
 Main Building, this one has been repurposed as a haunted house.
 Fairly certain that chandelier isn't original.
 The main entrance.





 Abandoned playground in the middle of the complex. This was probably the creepiest part.
 Basement entrance.

 This building might have been a little too far gone to save.




 Somehow I doubt Hershey Hall was the "Sweetest Place on Earth"



 The garage, which is actually still in use. A mulch company uses the parking lot as their storage yard, and keeps equipment in here.


 The mulch pile has pushed in a couple basement windows.


 This building was where the medical center was.

 Old locker room, maybe?

Indoor Tour

A lot of my posts lately have been outside looks at stores, but today I'll make it up to you. Like 75% of what I'm covering this post are store interiors. Without further ado, let's get started! Malvern Federal, Exton, PA Here's one of the more interesting bank buildings in the area. Its early history is a little complicated but I can tell you what stands today dates back at least to 1810 and was originally a farmhouse. The 1810 portion, made of stone, was added onto a log house constructed in 1771. This part may still be here, but nothing standing today obviously jumps out as a log structure so if it does still stand, it has been covered in stucco. It maintained its original use for close to 200 years, before Malvern Federal Savings bank bought the structure in 1964 and converted it to a bank. Hey My Backlog's Exactly 3 Years Now!

Oddly satisfying coincidence here- my schedule lines up so that this post, which will be my last for 2020, also happens to be the last of my 2017 photos. For it, we're going 100% Delaware- first, we're finishing off that adventure we started to the state last post, then we're going to be getting into some stuff from Delaware County PA. Not that it was intentional or anything. I just happen to frequent both places. ACME, Claymont, DE This location opened in 1967 and closed after their other location in town expanded in the 90's. It was split up between 6 smaller stores, most of which were closed by 2013 when Aaron's moved into the right side and redid the façade. They closed earlier this year, pre-pandemic. The gap between Aaron's and the smaller tenants on the left was gutted out, exposing the original ceiling. Back in the Homeland

  Today we've got another set of photos from a weekend I went home- and unlike last time I'm actually staying in the home area. We've got a few different stores I'm excited to share with you, so lets get to it! Starbucks/Buena Vista/El Limon, Paoli, PA Last time I showed you this was, Buena Vista had just opened up in the former Paoli Starbucks. I thought it was strange, as the building its in was slated for demolition to make way for the Paoli Station redevelopment. Flash forward a year or so, and its been bought by local tacqueria chain El Limon. But only this location. Buena Vista's other area locations are still going strong. I have no clue why El Limon wanted it, as the building was living on borrowed time already, but they did. The building still stands, but all the tenants were evicted earlier this year to make way for the project. 1N/Susquehanna/BB&T/UFinancial, Lionville, PA It's been a long time since I've given you an update on this place!
