Some Retail, Some Historic Stuff, and Some Overlap Between the Two.
"Danger Barn", Chester Springs, PA
It hasn't decayed too much more since we last took a look at this, but there's not too much left to rot at this point. This will be torn down relatively soon for a parking lot and trailhead. Despite that, it still sits on private property that will have a house built on it.
I needed old wood to build something for a school project last year, which I was able to salvage from here.
I'm sorta surprised the township hasn't made them fence off the property yet, it's rather dangerous.
One of the surviving windows. I'm not sure why there's more siding behind it.
More Farm-y Stuff
This field is still used for farming, but the barns in back are abandoned. I've been meaning to check them out for some time but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I should try to make a point of doing it sooner rather than later, since the property's currently for sale.
Little spring house across the road. I think it's a separate property.
Giant, Phoenixville, PA
Not a great picture, but given the location in the store and the number of employees here, it was the best I could do. They've walled off the former 1N Bank. I'm not sure if it ever made it to the Susquehanna days, but it was gone long before BB&T bought them.
The healthcare department, which was given a slight remodel since this picture was taken. The shelves and signage were replaced. I wanna say they replaced the flooring too but I don't remember exactly.
Bakery's received new cases.
Like with healthcare, the Baby department was also redone. The most noticeable change was the removal of the wave-shaped thing over the right side of the aisle.
PSFS/Citizen's Bank, Exton, PA
This was built as a PSFS in the 70's, and became Citizen's after they got bought out. I'm assuming the roof wasn't green prior to the name change.
Rite-Zone Progress
The interior is nearing completion. I think the only thing left to do before moving in was to polish the floors. AutoZone's new lighting is in place, but for whatever reason wasn't turned on yet. What's strange is that they went fluorescent here, but then less than a year after opening switched them out for LED's.
Rite Aid's vestibule was really the only part of the inside they kept. I'm pretty sure they put the glass back in before they reopened, so I'm not sure why it was taken out in the first place.
Abandoned Bank, Exton, PA
I'm not sure what this was in its bank days, but if I were to guess I'd say either First Pennsylvania or Fidelity Bank. It closed a long time ago. Afterwards, it briefly served as a contractor's office, but has been abandoned for well over a decade at this point. In 2016, there were plans to turn this into a daycare, which seem to have fallen through. They're now making plans to put it in an old barn down the road. Plans are to develop the land on either side of this building, so I'd assume this will be torn down in the process.
The drive-thru was taken down around 2010. It was probably falling down.
Looking in through the door. The interior was mostly gutted out, but the vestibule was left in place.
There were blinds on the windows, so this was the best view I could get of the inside.
The outside doesn't look in awful shape, but I have a feeling there should be less bricks missing from the tower.
Arco/Sunoco, Exton, PA
This was built in the 70's, but most likely replaced an older location on the site. There's an Arco/Sunoco tank field behind this that dates back to the 50's. It's been abandoned for a while and isn't in too great a shape. They're putting in a new road next to this, so I'd assume something will happen to it before too long.
Exton Whole Foods Progress
At this point, construction of the exterior has been completed, but they hadn't started the inside yet.
Even though the outside of the building itself was finished, they still had a bit of landscaping and sidewalk to add.
Empty interior. I was surprised to see they didn't even have the concrete slab poured yet.
Gino's/Hot Spot Diner, Newtown Square, PA
Hot Spot had closed down since my last photo. The building's still empty as of early 2019.
Rite Aid, Newtown Square, PA
This location opened in 2014 on the site of a former Chevrolet dealership. It replaced a former Eckerd in the shopping center across the street, which is now a Michael's.
Shield/Rite Aid, Broomall, PA
This opened as a Shield Pharmacy in the 70's, which became a Rite Aid in the 80's. It has the original wellness décor. I'm assuming they're planning on replacing this at some point soon, probably in a new shopping center n the works down the road.
7-Eleven, Broomall, PA
I think this one opened in the 60's. The roof looks mostly flat, but there's a peak behind the striped façade.
(The Porch at the) Lamb Tavern, Springfield, PA
The Lamb Tavern opened in 1729, and had an almost 300 year run. Unfortunately, it couldn't survive the late 2000's- but it didn't sit empty for long. It reopened in the early 2010's as The Porch at the Lamb. I believe the center of the building all dates back to the 1700's, and the one-story wraparound portion was added on later.

ReplyDeleteHence, Danger Barn!
Lol! I'm a little embarrassed I didn't make that connection when typing this out. :P
