 Giant, Westtown, PA (South)
Opened in the mid-2000's, remodeled 2013-2014 (same time as the Exton store. Notice the Exton and Westtown ACME's closed the same day. Coincidence? I think not.)
Meats. This department was not moved.
 Produce.
Bakery area. I'm pretty proud of this picture. In the remodel, this was moved from the opposite corner of the store in the remodel. This, like Exton, got the full remodel. Most others didn't have the department rearrangement/lighting replacement.
 King Soopers, Parker, CO
 Chips and snacks wall
I think that might be a Fresh Fare aisle marker. It seems pretty unbalanced.
 Safeway, Parker, CO
I'm curious to see what has become of these cross-beam lights. Albertsons has been adding fluorescent strip lights over areas like this, and I'm a little afraid that may involve taking down the beam ones. Update: beams are gone as of Winter 2017.
The deli. Originally, there was just a lower exposed warehouse ceiling around the perimeter. I think there are offices above these areas. Again, it looks 1000 times better now. I don't think the old ceiling was even painted.
Pharmacy and aisle markers. They remind me somewhat of A&P's last ones.
 Produce
Old logo still proudly displayed on most carts
A very classy pharmacy in the back of the store. I think this area was gutted out and rebuilt then they redid the store. "I read Safeway remodeled a bunch of stores like this with the intention of adding in-store clinics, but something went awry and it never happened. (The tiny Giant/ex. Genuardi's in Maple Glen, PA has this exact same extra space next to the Pharmacy--which was also added after Safeway took over)."-mbz32190
Aisles
Opened in 1984, it was remodeled to the pre-lifestyle decor in the late 2000's
JCPenney/Round 1, Exton, PA
Looking inside the former JCPenney at the Exton Mall.
*Excludes Coconuts and Avocados
Our local Giant has this posted above their dairy cases. I can't take it seriously. And why over the dairy cases?
ACME, Chester Springs, PA
The corner in front of Customer Service has been turned into a mini Eagles shop. This used to be seasonal. Recently, they have added a Philadelphia Union (MLS) section. They made a Union partnership within the last year. I wonder how the Philadelphia teams will be received in ACME's new NY stores...
 SuperFresh/Redner's, Lionville, PA
That bench was in the back center of the store.
Most of the minimalistic décor has been removed already.
Registers ready to be shipped out.
Produce cases, as seen through the vestibule.
This store closed December 31, 2014. Cleaning it out began in mid-January.
The sign here is still up today.
Carts in the back room. I think the only thing Redner's did here was replace the lights.
Clemens Signage at Lionville GiantThere are two sets of restrooms in the store: the nice ones and the crappy ones, as employees refer to them. The nice ones (pictured) were remodeled in 2010 when Giant redid the store. The crappy ones were not. Oddly enough, they kept the Clemens restroom sign. The only difference is a fresh coat of paint!v
 ACME, King of Prussia, PA
The fresh paint job and signage can be a little misleading, but the inside has held up pretty well for the last 16 years. It moved here from a pitched-roof store in the mall during the 1990's expansion. Update: Closed mid-2018.
Pharmacy. Given how it sticks out in the corner, I think this was built in during the last remodel.
There used to be spotlights on the signage.
This would have opened with the red/white/blue décor, but was remodeled not too long after. Architecturally, a lot changed in 4 years!
The front end. In a recent reconfiguration, they killed the self checkouts and moved floral from the center of the store to their location. They also got rid of the break between the aisles.
 ACME, Bryn Mawr, PA
It's nice, but the tower is nothing compared to the original.
This store is really small due to the property size. Nonetheless, it's still about three times the old store's size!
I have always liked this décor, despite how cheap it looked.
Until last year, this was ACME's newest store, built in 2012 to replace a 50's store on the site.
 Hechinger/Wegman's, Downingtown, PA
They used to have vintage photos of Wegman's stores hanging above the registers.
Seafood. These departments are all in their own hallway between the sales floor and the café.
Although this store had been remodeled once before, the original Pharmacy sign was still up... for now.
 King of Prussia Mall
Macy's, built in the early 80's as a Bamberger's. Nothing is supposed to change here, but I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their minds. As much as I like this look, I have to admit, it looks pretty dated.
The walkway between the malls. This will be rendered pointless by the expansion, but plans are still calling for it to be replaced
 Genuardi's, Lionville, PA
I walked by the former Lionville Genuardi's. In the three years since it closed, the only thing that had happened was the ceiling giving out over the café.
I was here on a Friday night, so it was too crowded for me to get any good interior pictures. This was the best I could do.
 ACME, Westtown, PA
The 80's flooring is gone, but the vestibule is otherwise intact... for now.
Sometime between Winter 2014 and Spring 2015, this place had been gutted out entirely. It's surprising that the Amish Market would be doing this much work on it! See what it used to look like here.
Sears Auto Center, Granite Run Mall, Media, PA
This location must do some serious business considering all the mass closings it has survived.
Clover/Kohl's, Granite Run Mall, Media, PA
It looks like the façade was redone in the 80's or 90's to match their newer stores. Kohl's bought them in the late 90's. I'm not sure if they did any work on it then, since they had similar architectural styles.
ACME, Granite Run Mall, Media, PA
Exterior. It used to say "FOOD" where the "Cold Beer" sign is now.
When they added the beer department, they removed the lattice from over the produce. This area was another store that they expanded into. Since the ceiling was higher here, there were high bay lights until Albertsons got their hands on it.
The beer department along the front was added sometime last year.
 Dairy along the back wall.
I think they went a little overboard here.
 Fancy floral room.
The area with the warehouse ceiling was the original part.
ACME is supposed to stay here, but I bet it will be heavily remodeled. It was expanded in the 90's and given the Chalkboard Market décor, and given a deluxe version of the Marketplace décor in the early 2000's.
 A&P/SuperFresh/Redner's, Oxford, PA
Looking across the tiny produce section.
Typical red & white décor inside.
A&P opened here in the 70's, it was converted over to SF in the early 80's, which closed around 2000. Redner's opened up a couple of years later and completely redid the place. Apparently, Redner's has dropped the "Warehouse Market" from its name, and has been going around upgrading stores to the newer logo. I wonder if anything has happened here yet.
 Super G/ACME, Norristown, PA
Opened in 1992 as Giant-Md's Super G chain, which Ahold closed off in the early 2000's. ACME opened this store along with their Chester Springs store in 2003. The two stores have different decors: This one has the industrial look, while Chester Springs has the marketplace design.
Produce. I think there was a Reading Center in the area in back at one point, but it was removed when Albertson's did a small remodel last year. It involved adding more lights, filling in the break in the aisles, and replacing the reading center with organic produce. The organic sign is in their new décor, which surprisingly goes nicely with this look. The sign is hanging right behind the man in gray.
A people-free shot. I had to wait about ten minutes to get this.
You can see a little Super G tile to the right.
Seafood. The tile in back here was replaced by ACME. However, the back prep rooms kept Super G's red/white striped pattern. It's easy to see in person, but pretty hard to get a photo of. Original tile was kept elsewhere in the store, like the restrooms, but was painted white.
The Meats department runs along the back wall. The layout is also similar to ACME's of the same era, so Super G must not have been too unusual.
While ACME redid the store extensively, they kept the original layout for the most part and the drop ceiling. Update: I stand corrected: This is one place that Acme made some significant layout changes. Under Super G the back wall would have been the Floral department and a cooler for stems and arrangements. Acme moved Floral to the end of Aisle 1. Also under Super G the Salad Bar would have been under the Farmstand sign." -mjhale.
 Genuardi's Cleanout
May, 2015: Three years after closure, They finally began to clear out the Lionville Genuardi's. A friend who works in the restaurant next door said somebody was going to move in, but I guess those plans fell through.
The case on the left was part of the buffet, which hadn't been used since 2008.
That torch was probably being used to cut the pipes going to the refrigerated cases.
Former cafe. The furniture was all moved out, but the partitions and counter tops found their way to the dumpster in back.
Former Pizza department. Genuardi's was like a precursor to Wegman's. They had a department for everything.
Looking in through the main vestibule.
One week later: Decor is starting to come down. Shelves are slowly being moved to the truck out back.
 Turkey Hill, Honey Brook, PA
A pre-1990's styled one, meaning it could have been built anytime between the 60's to the 80's. Given its size, I would guess it is a little newer.
It looks like it has been remodeled since Kroger took over. The decor is actually a lot more elaborate than it appears.
Previously, they just had a mound of asphalt painted yellow acting as a sidewalk.
 ACME, Exton, PA
On the other side, they were storing some cases removed in remodels. I bet most of these came from the Devon store.
I don't know how they got the landlord's permission to do this.
A little over a year after they closed, ACME got their act together and stopped using the former Exton store as a warehouse. There were about a dozen self checkout machines being stored here.
Clover/Kohl's, Exton, PAThis opened in 1985 as Strawbridge's Clover department store, which was one of the ones sold to Kohl's in the late 90's Some work was done on the facade, but for the most part, it remains the same.
I'm not sure if anything was done to the interior, It looks pretty Kohl's to me. The only thing I know for a fact was changes was the lighting, which was upgraded to LED earlier this year.
 Jamesway/Tractor Supply, Pottstown, PA
TSC kept the back room space of the entire Jamesway, going behind the TJ Maxx and salon.
Even as the other 75% of the Jamesway was occupied by one thing or another, this portion sat vacant until 2009. Ironically, within a year, this became the only occupied portion of the old Jamesway.
 Genuardi's, Audubon, PA
A look inside shortly after closure. The shelves were covered over with a tarp since repainting was about to begin.
 A&P/SuperFresh/French Creek Outfitters, Phoenixville, PA
A&P opened with the mall in the early 70's. It closed around 2000, shortly before the center was de-malled. French Creek Outfitters moved here from their previous location in North Coventry in 2002.
I don't think anything original was kept in the main store.
I think this was a mall corridor. The stores on either side were converted to private shooting ranges.
 Bottom Dollar, Downingtown, PA
Opened 2011, closed January 15, 2015.
They always had the best ads. You can check some out here.
The decor is still up. I don't think Aldi has any plans on opening up here, since they have a relatively new store in Exton.
Their produce department was a large metal refrigerator, which took up this space. I'm surprised they removed this.
 Wegmans, Malvern, PA
This store opened around 2010. It's one of their nicer stores.
It didn't really show up in the picture, but they have lights shining floral patterns on the floor.
 Front wall
This arch leads from the main sales floor to the service departments. The second arch in back leads to the beer department, and the restaurants just beyond that.
Deli is along the back wall. The island is the Sushi department.
 Cake department
Mural along the back wall. Most of the stores in the area have Valley Forge in there somewhere.
this store was a lot brighter than the Downingtown store. As a result, a lot of the pictures are a little washed out.
 PetSmart, Downingtown, PA
The tile ends about halfway back. I guess whatever was here before had a wall here. I don't currently have a clear exterior picture, it was raining pretty hard that day.
The fiberglass animals on the signage look positively terrifying from beneath.
 Rite Aid, Phoenixville, PA
Rite Aid, Exxon/Mobil, and Macy's have all started using the "Plenti" rewards card, where points can be used at all the different stores.
Looking to the grocery section in the front corner opposite the door.
 Raised ceiling over cosmetics.
Pharmacy counter in back. There is another window like that on the other side.
This store opened around 2008. I sincerely doubt they ever carried film.
Here's is an exterior picture from a couple months before. I was trying to get a picture of the waiting area here without acting too suspicious, since the pharmacist was about ten feet away from me.
Wawa, Phoenixville, PA
Opened 2010 as one of the last stores in their old Fuel Center model. It was raining pretty heavily that day, so I didn't get a picture of the outside. It looked just like this.
