Chester Springs ACME Remodel and Revisiting the Vaughan House

Image
ACME, Chester Springs, PA At this point, the remodel is nearing completion. The vestibule didn't see much change aside from the new signage. I guess they figured the old paneling fit well with the new décor.  One of the more surprising changes was that they took out the first aisle to expand the produce department. Given the amount of work they did on this store, I'm surprised they not only kept the original flooring, but continued the pattern into the new space (you can see the old tile on the right is a little dirtier than the new stuff). Most stores to get this décor get faux wood flooring in Produce, even in remodels not as extensive as this one.  Former Citizens Bank is turning into the new beer café. It looks like they're nearing completion here.  Customer Service was moved from this corner of the store to the area next to checkout. Floral was then moved from the middle of the store over to this spot.  It looks like the new floral department is up and r

Death of a Save-A-Lot, and Some Other Stuff in the Phoenixville/Pottstown Area

Save-A-Lot, Pottstown, PA This part of the shopping center was built in 2012 on an old industrial property, set back a little ways from the main road. It sat totally vacant until Save-A-Lot opened in 2013. At the time of their closure in mid-2017, they were still the center's only tenant. The building sits vacant currently, about 2/3 of it never used. Being totally honest here, I had no idea this place was closing when I came over. I figured I haven't documented a SAL here before, there's one fairly close to me in Pottstown, how about I head over there? Let's be glad that thought didn't come to mind two weeks later.  The store was overall still pretty well stocked for it's last two weeks. I actually didn't even pick up on the fact that it was closing until about midway through my trip. I just assumed all the sales were part of it being a discount grocer (again, this was my first time here so I didn't know what to expect).  Since Save-A-Lot was

Former Gas Station, Pottstown, PA I can't identify the colors on this one, so I'm assuming it finished out life selling independently. Prior to that, I want to say this was a Sunoco bases on the canopy's rounded corners. The building is now M&M Lube & Automotive  King of Prussia Town Center This center was built on the site of a golf course that closed in the early 2000's. The center spent many years in the planning stages. They built the center's access road and Wegman's in 2011, however the rest of it didn't open until 2017.  The Xfinity store here is in its own freestanding building. It's by far the largest one I've seen, there's a good chance it could be their flagship location.  The back end of the old course is being turned into high-rise apartments. I think the site's about half retail, half residential. There's also a few office sites scattered around but not very many.  The center mostly had a "Main
